According to the Oxford dictionary, irrigation is the means to supply water to land or crops using channels. If you install an automated water supply system for your garden, does that mean the word has changed meaning, or have we started to use a convenient word in the wrong context? You are after all not going to start digging channels in your garden are you? Or maybe you are, but for a different purpose.
